What we collect and what we don't

What student accounts collect

  • •A first name and an optional last initial (a single letter) so teachers can identify students in their class.
  • •A username and password so students can save progress and log in from any device. Passwords are hashed — we never store them in plain text.
  • •Progress data: lessons completed, capstone scores, current grade, streak count, virtual cash, avatar customization, and shop items owned.
  • •A classroom code linking the student to their teacher's class.

What student accounts do NOT collect

  • •Student accounts never require an email address.
  • •Student accounts store at most a first name and a single last initial — no full last names.
  • •No phone numbers, home addresses, or real-world identity information.
  • •No advertising or third-party tracking.

Teacher accounts

Teachers sign in with an email address or a Google account because they need access to shared classroom data across devices. The teacher email is used only for sign-in. Teachers are adults, so this is outside the children's-privacy scope.

Why we collect so little from students

MoneyMind is designed for students under 13. We intentionally avoid collecting personal information like email addresses or full names to stay compliant with children's privacy laws (COPPA). Students can play in Guest Mode without creating any account at all — their progress stays on their device only. When a teacher creates accounts in bulk, students receive a username and temporary password and never enter any personal information themselves.

How progress is stored

Progress saves to the browser first (so the app works instantly and offline), then syncs to our secure database a few seconds after each change. This lets a student pick up where they left off on any device once they log in. Guest progress never leaves the device.

Is the student login secure?

This is a lightweight classroom login, not a secure authentication system. Passwords are hashed before storage, but the system is designed for classroom convenience — not to protect sensitive data. No real financial information or personal data is at stake.
